Mechanical method of separation of phases that compose an emulsion or a suspension, based on the process of spontaneous sedimentation. The result, obtained by the force of gravity, is more effective because the particles in suspension have higher density than the liquid that acts as a solvent; affects also the size of the particles: smaller they are less effective is the decantation.
